The Aquarium, but like a dream

“I will always love you.” As Ocean’s quiet, heartfelt voice comes in, the footage shifts to my siblings. I filmed this after coming to Korea from my first year of college in America, a place too far from home — Indonesia. I shot the entire film on my phone, the same way I’ve always captured everyday moments with my siblings. Like an aquarium, the film is calm and dreamlike; time passes without you noticing, and for a while, nothing else matters. After a year apart, being with my siblings again felt especially peaceful — a kind of comfort I rarely feel with anyone else, which I wanted this film to hold onto.

The 18th Summer

Who Do You Love by The Black Skirts

The 18th Summer holds moments from my summer in Korea after graduating from a school I attended since kindergarten. Shot on an old digital camera, the footage carries a low-quality vintage feel, capturing time with my friends, quiet travels, and days with my grandparents. Set to "Who Do You Love," the film feels affectionate and warm but also slightly heavy, like something you know won’t last forever. Most of the film remains soft and blurry, like memories that fade but still stay with you. At the end, a single shot filmed on my phone appears in clear quality, grounding the film in the present. It symbolizes a shift that I’m moving forward even without the same friends, environment, or version of life I once knew. But I carry those memories with me, remembering the people who stayed by my side and shaped who I am.
